GOOD TO KNOW

A dumpster’s size
isn’t its weight limit.

Reams offers 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 yard options. Those numbers describe volume. Your quote specifies the included weight and any additional charges.

How accurate is this estimate?

It is a planning estimate. Product, moisture, finishes and attached materials change the actual weight. Use the adjustable weight factor when you have a manufacturer’s specification. Disposal charges are based on measured weight.

What about heavy materials?

Concrete and roofing debris can reach a hauling limit before a dumpster is full. Call Reams to confirm the container and loading instructions for your material and location.

Can I estimate a mixed load?

Calculate each material separately and select “Add to project total.” The combined weight covers only the materials you enter. It does not estimate the space needed after demolition.

Where do the weight factors come from?

Concrete, roofing and lumber use adjustable planning defaults. Drywall includes a manufacturer-specific lightweight panel option. Review the calculation notes and replace defaults with known product weights when available.

Calculation notes & reference sources

1 US short ton = 2,000 pounds. Concrete: length × width × thickness in feet × selected density. Broken pile volume includes air gaps; use the broken-concrete factor only for a pile measurement. Roofing: squares × layers × pounds per square, or bundles × pounds per bundle. One square covers 100 square feet; bundles are counted across all layers. Lumber: actual width × thickness in inches ÷ 144 × total linear feet × density. Drywall: length × width × sheet count × pounds per square foot, plus the chosen allowance.

Planning defaults: solid concrete 150 lb/ft³; broken concrete 75 lb/ft³; three-tab shingles 240 lb/square; architectural 415; slate 900. Lumber 30–48 lb/ft³ depending on selection. These are estimates, not Reams hauling limits. Shingle bundle weights vary by product; the bundle mode uses an editable factor rather than assuming a bundle count per square.

References: Concrete guide · Roofing guide · Lumber guide · Drywall guide · USG UltraLight ½-inch panel: 1.25 lb/ft². Generic drywall factors: 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 and 2.2 lb/ft² for the listed thicknesses. Lumber density defaults are planning assumptions and may be overridden.
